Hi Everyone! Amy here to tell you about an exciting event which NBS community members recently participated in.
On Monday, June 18th we had the opportunity to remount the Bollywood flashmob choreography at an event for an organization called PREVNet at the Delta Chelsea Hotel in Toronto. PREVNet is a national network of Canadian researchers, non-governmental organizations and governments committed to stop bullying. We were honoured to be asked to perform our routine for this fantastic organization.
As there was very little space in the conference room, we were only able to use 35 participants. Everyone who signed up was eager to get back into the rehearsal studio to refresh our bodies with the choreography.
NBS teacher, Ashleigh ran three rehearsals in order to prep us for the event. She is a real pro and it was wonderful to have the opportunity to add even more finesse and polish to the routine. I really enjoy dancing with our community members because we’re all doing it for the pure love of movement and music. We aren't professional dancers, but the flashmob routines remind me that anyone, no matter your age, shape, or ability can express themselves through dance.
Once event-night came we were anxious to get in front of the crowd. The music started and our group stormed into the conference room with gusto! The audience was thrilled and surprised by our performance and I’m sure we made the night extra special for everyone.
In speaking with the dancers afterwards, I was warmed by some of their feedback. Many of them expressed that the NBS flashmobs are the highlight of their year, and that having a chance to perform it again was a truly special opportunity. This was a chance for them to reconnect with new friends and feel the high of performing in front of an audience again.
Thanks to everyone for making the PREVNet performance a success!
